Sunflower artwork on display | Antiques and art gallery
TERRYVILLE — The large 4×8-foot Sunflower painting by artists Ten-2-One will be on display in the Home and Garden Building at the Terryville Fair from Friday, August 26 through Sunday, August 28 at Town Hill Road. The tribute to Ukraine was painted jointly by members of Thomaston’s Ten-2-One artists as well as members of the public.
Artists around the world painted sunflowers to show their solidarity with Ukraine.
According to a 1993 Ukrainian encyclopedia, in the context of war, sunflowers mean that Russia will not crush the spirit of Ukraine. This piece of public art was created as a step forward to raise awareness of the plight of Ukraine.
The Terryville Lion’s Club has offered to display the artwork and raise funds for Ukraine. Donations will be sent to the Ukrainian Medical Association of North America, in conjunction with the Kushnir Project. UMANA and its chapters collect, purchase and ship medical supplies to Ukrainian hospitals and clinics.
The members of Ten-2-One thank Sandra Murphy-Bishop, Home and Garden Manager of Terryville Fair, and the members of the Lions Club for facilitating the project.
Thomaston’s Fine Arts Connection artists encourage other businesses, organizations or individuals who may be interested in publicly displaying the tribute and coordinating donations to help the people of Ukraine.
Those who want more information can visit the Crescent Gallery from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, as well as meet the artists, or visit online at www.ten-2-oneartists.com or www.facebook.com/CrescentGallery.
