The Sweetwater County Library in Green River features 40 paintings by local artists.
Sandra Banks led a class last fall at the Golden Hour Senior Center, but now the group comes together in open painting sessions at the center, continuing to learn new things and support each other.
The “For the Love of Watercolor” art exhibition is currently on display in the gallery space until May. This exhibition welcomes a variety of subjects and styles, including still lifes, landscapes, black and white studies made using primary colors to create “black”, and portraits.
Artists Banks, Judy Graham, Penny Hughes, Dorothy Cook, Deborah Gaspar, Laurie Harris, Cathy Denman, Sharon Carpenter, and Kathy Reinard also used a variety of papers and paint surfaces.
“An artist works on an image and he seems to leave a piece of his soul in it…which makes it hard to let go after that, not to mention portraits are very enjoyable,” Banks said. “That said, a few of the pieces are available for purchase directly from individual artists.”
The group has met the past two summers painting outdoors enjoying local parks. This spring, they called their painting sessions “Indoor Outdoors” because they found enrichment and pleasure in watercolor, and encouraged others to try it. Those interested in learning more can contact Sandra Banks at (307) 875-2145.
