COLONIAL HEIGHTS – In honor of Historic Garden Week, Side Street Gallery presents “Virginia in Bloom.” The multimedia juried art exhibition includes entries with scenes of flowers, landscapes and gardens.
Saturday on opening day, the Rosecrest Garden Club displayed floral designs inspired by the show’s artwork.
When attendees arrived, artist Henry Kidd, president of the Side Street Gallery, led them into the room filled with works by hometown artists and craftspeople. He provided guests with voting instructions and refreshments.
Colonial Heights resident Donna Neatrour and her 21-year-old granddaughter, Paisley Loucks, visited the art exhibit together.
“Paisley had art on display here in high school,” Neatrour said. “She wants to be an art teacher.”
Side Street Gallery art students Cindy Hamlin of Chester and Ann Allen of Colonial Heights spent some quality time talking with the artists who submitted entries. The two artists, Hamlin and Allen, have produced graphite pencil lesson projects on display at the gallery.
Prizes were awarded to the following winners:
- First — Pat McNamara, “Lonely Iris” pastel painting
- Second — Carolyn Shiflet, “Love In Display” colored pencil drawing
- Third — Faye Henderson, watercolor “End of July”
- Honorable mention — Sheila M. Holland, acrylic painting “The Visitor”
- Honorable mention — Carolyn Jolly Widmoyer, batik on silk “Lily Garden”
The “Virginia in Bloom” art exhibit ends on Saturday, May 28. To view entries to the exhibit, visit the gallery at 135 Pickwick Avenue in Colonial Heights Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Over 50 artists and artisans have original paintings, prints, pottery, photography, jewelry, woodwork and stained glass for sale in the art gallery and non-profit shop. For more information, follow on Facebook @sidestreetartgallery.
