Chester Art Gallery closes store as it moves fully online after nearly 30 years

An art gallery in CHESTER town center has closed its physical store – but will continue to trade online.

The Arc Gallery was previously based on Commonhall Street until it closed on March 12.

In a statement, posted on the store window and on the company’s Facebook page, owner Jan Arditti said: “For nearly 30 years, the Arc Gallery has been a true labor of love.

“However, against the backdrop of two years of difficult business conditions combined with increasing overheads, and to free up time for more personal projects and new opportunities, I have made the difficult decision to close the gallery.

“I will continue to sell the best of British craftsmanship and design online through The Arc Gallery website as always.

“I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been part of our bricks and mortar journey so far, to the hundreds of makers, designers, artists, artisans and suppliers who have contributed to our success over the years. , to our amazing staff and especially to Phoebe Wainwright who founded The Arc Gallery in 1994.

“But most importantly, thank you to our wonderful customers themselves, who over the years have not only supported this small business, but indirectly supported a whole range of other independent craft and design businesses – a big round of applause to all of you.

“Let’s not be too sad, but rather celebrate what we have achieved and look to the future.

“Or, in the words of Dr. Seuss: ‘Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.'”

The Arc Gallery offers a wide range of handcrafted ceramics, glass, textiles, jewelry, wood, leather, metalwork and limited edition prints. Over the years, it has won numerous awards for its retail service.
